The Parable of Christmas Morning

The Parable of Christmas Morning

Some Simple thoughts from the Panhandling Philosopher

On Christmas morning I learn why Jesus would speak in parables.
He told us the mystery of truth spoken in the form of parables.
We would see and we would not understand
Why would he hide from us the truth he came to speak?

Then to Bethlehem we are drawn by stars and angelic voice.
We are to see Immanuel – God with us in an infant’s face.
We draw near and this infant seems like simply an infant.
Why have you brought me here to see Deity, it’s a baby.

He who would speak in parables was the greatest parable.
Deity not so much hidden as it was expressed in humanity
The parable never understood though from the first seen
God revealed in humanity but missed in this humanity.

So we look at God given in human flesh
And complain we cannot see God for the humanity.
Never understanding man created in God’s image
Was meant to be the place of a new temple,
where God filled His image with His presence.

The mystery of our not understanding the parable
was in sadness that we looked always for more
when what he spoke was from the start clearly seen
and when we saw God in the mirror of our humanity
we saw not His presence stamped on his own image.

So we are prone to wander the earth in our chains
forged trying to find God in some mysterious form
While passing by a thousand people with simple needs
Never understanding how our God has been made man.

He created us long ago in his own image
That he might come to us in that shared image
He at last had come plain for everyone to see
And we refused looking always for something more.
He spoke in parables was He who is the parable.
